Last Disco in North Korea

Details

Inspired by a headline from a newspaper article by US journalist Ron Gluckman.
I imagined a once thriving discotheque abandoned by its owners and workers, the record deck still spinning, answer phone beeping with messages and enquiries from fun hungry patrons. Stone-faced North Korean policemen gingerly stepping through the premises with torches and pistols cocked.

But they're too late – everyone's gone.

Lyrics

The club owner languishes in jail,
The doorman’s out on bail,
It’s The Last Disco in North Korea.

The barman was found with a gun,
The go-go dancers are on the run,
It’s The Last Disco in North Korea.

The whisky was watered down,
The brown ale wasn’t brown,
It’s the Last Disco in North Korea.

The hat-check girl still hasn’t been found,
The front of house greeter has gone to ground,
It’s the Last Disco in North Korea.

Working in Korea has wrecked my career
I fear it’s far worse than I feared.
You see I saw this as an opportunity,
To put all my mistakes behind me.

It’s the last disco, last disco,
It’s such a pity I’ll never meet Emperor Rosko,
Last disco, last disco,
But they’re opening another one in San Francisco.
